Faces

Faces,
So many I see
Like fishes in the sea;
So many I meet
Upon life’s wondrous drift…

Some I see
And try my utmost to flee
To a few
In Cupid’s name
I made a plea.
But an unholy combination
He made of it.

Haki Ya Mungu! Faces!
Fair like Maidens!
Glorious to gaze upon!
Haki ya Mungu… Faces…
Rioting in colours
like masquerades
With painted faces.

To the few
I gave my heart
Sitting beneath the lovers’ hearth
Deservers of celebratory gunfire salutes!
In my head they remain
Like a favorite tune.
