Ushering in the New Year

In the cities,
the church bells are tolling.
The jangle of their collective rings
ding a dong they go
Ushering in the New Year.

Ushering in the New Year,
Joyous peals of laughter.
like a choral strain
out of the infant lips of babes
traversing the great divide;
glad tidings a bringing.

Ushering in the New Year,
a sonorous assemblage of voices.
Their glorious pitch,
hearts of stone a melting.
Gone they say is the year before
a page in history to become.

Standing at the portal,
as this year we usher in;
It’s in nervous anticipation
of what it has in store for us.
But with the odds ever in our favour
Lord we pray;
“May our radiance never grow dim”.
